Snap! Snap!
Published in Paperback by Putnam Pub Group (October, 1984)
Author: Colin Hawkins
Average review score:

Dealing with nightmares
I bought this book years ago for my son who was troubled by nightmares. It came in handy just recently when my 6 year old daughter started complaining of nightmares.

The book is about Sally, who is kidnapped by the cutest monster you ever saw and carried off into the hairy, scary darkness where other equally cute monsters want to eat her up. Sally confronts the monsters, who decide to play with her. The story ends with Sally falling, falling, falling, down, down, down, into her bed.

Just the idea that such a thing as falling, falling, falling is in a real book seems to reassure my kids that this is a normal dream experience and nothing to worry about. I hope this book is back in print soon! I want a number of copies myself to give as gifts.

Spirits of the Aether
Published in Paperback by Holmes Pub Group (November, 2001)
Author: Jaq D. Hawkins
Average review score:

Better than ever!
I'm so glad this one finally came out, so now the series is complete! I was not dissappointed. Jaq writes about Spirit in a way that obviously comes from first hand experience. Reading through this series has helped my own magical studies probably more than all of the other books I've read combined, and I will never sell them even if I clear out all my other magic books! Can't wait to see what she writes next.

Spirits of the Fire
Published in Paperback by The Holloway Press (01 January, 2000)
Author: Jaq D. Hawkins
Average review score:

A brilliant book, I'll never see fire the same again
This one is as incredible as the rest of the series has been so far, but is unique in itself. I'll never see fire the same again, it's like a living entity. I've heard that the one on water is even better, can't wait to see it!

Sportplane Construction Techniques (Tony Bingelis Ser.))
Published in Paperback by EAA Aviation Foundation (March, 1992)
Authors: Tony Bingelis, Antoni Bingelis, and Teresa Hawkins
Average review score:

An essential reference
All of Tony's books are must haves for anyone building, or thinking about building their own airplane. Each is a collection of several years worth of his columns from the Experimental Aviation Association's magazine, "Sport Aviation". Each article covers a discrete area in far greater detail than almost any source, with lots of pictures, and the benefit of not just Tony's experience (8 airplanes) but also his years in the Air Force, as an EAA Technical Counseler, and his gleanings from the best aviation practice of the last 40 years.

Stop Talking, Start Doing!: Attracting People of Color to the Library Profession
Published in Paperback by Amer Library Assn Editions (December, 1999)
Authors: Gregory L. Reese and Ernestine L. Hawkins
Average review score:

A readable presentation and useful work.
With a great deal of documentation, the authors describe the changing demographics of the labor force, higher education population , library environs , and library users. However, library professionals are lagging this seachange . The library profession itself does not reflect this. Why? Stop Talking Start Doing looks at the Why ? and makes its case with an effective mix of data and scenarios from library professionals at varied levels .

The authors include a number of revealing anecdotes which illuminate what should be changes/additions in who, what, how and where libraries deliver their services.

Many ideas and issues (closing libraries in urban cities ) are old hat and have been argued against in earlier times ; in isolated situations before diversity or multiculturalism was hip. For instance ,a proposal for investigating library services to nontraditional library users and libraries in an urban area as a doctoral project circa 1980 was not encouraged . In fact the proposal was blown off - dismissed - with a couple of lame reasons .

However , with the twenty first century just around the corner it may be possible that those who are interested or concerned about a more diverse library profession in the new century will read this most readable seminal work. Diverse library professionals can create and deliver information, information services, and information technologies more effectively to a diverse population . Another outcome of the reading of the work may be that more library professionals are motivated to change their attitudes and assumptions or at the very least have their awareness level raised.

One of the best things about the book is its descriptions of diverse participants practices, activities, responses and counter responses where the diverse voices and stances emerge and perhaps can be honestly examined in an effort to work together for future resolutions .

Mixing statistics, interviews, and commentary, the authors discuss the under representation of minority information professionals which unacknowledged and not addressed will continue to effect unfavorably the number of practicing minority information specialists and their sensitivity ( to services, collections, communications, etc.) for minority information users .

A Must for Every Golf Fan!
This is a wonderful collection of interesting stories and tidbits of information....kind of an "Everything you always wanted to know about the Masters but were afraid to ask." I was surprised--quite pleasantly--at the inclusion of so many quotes straight from the sources I wanted to hear from: Jones, Snead, Nicklaus, Watson, Palmer,Woods....It really seems like a peek into a secret society! And it's a lot of fun to re-tell these stories on the course on Saturday mornings.
